An on-going project to design assistive devices for people living with Parkinson’s Disease. We are researching and designing a series of tools that address needs relating to Freezing of Gait when navigating public and private environments. While there are currently tools on the market that address gait freeze specially, these canes often do not have lasting effect, tend to look overly institutional, and in many cases prove cumbersome once movement is initiated. The existing products for Parkinson’s – and for many other medical needs – are also often stigmatizing in their look and feel. Our goal is to design walking aids which increase mobility and which look and feel like beautiful objects. We want our clients to be proud of the tools they rely on.
